Carneiro again accuses Government of profiting from fuel price increases

RTP Notícias6 September 2026 at 14:10

José Luís Carneiro again accused the Government of profiting from fuel price increases. The Secretary-General of the Socialist Party reiterated this accusation, maintaining his critical position regarding the fuel pricing policy implemented by the executive.

According to José Luís Carneiro, the Government earned 1.48 million euros in two years through fuel increases. This amount represents, for the Socialist Party, proof that the executive obtains economic benefits from the price hikes.

The accusation emerges in the context of a broader political debate about fiscal policy and energy prices in Portugal, where the opposition has been questioning how the Government manages fuel taxes.

Venezuela: Diaspora wants to include migrants in dialogue for democratic transition

Over a hundred organizations from the Venezuelan diaspora, representing countries in Latin America, North America and Europe, including the Portuguese association "Queremos Volver," called on Venezuela's government and opposition to include the nearly 7.8 million Venezuelan migrants in the dialogue for a democratic transition. In a joint statement, the organizations warn that it is impossible to consolidate a democratic transition without including the millions ofVenezuelans abroad, noting that only 69,211 people were eligible to vote in the July 2024 presidential elections, although five million adults live outside the country. The document proposes strengthening the consular network, creating itinerant service mechanisms, the possibility of issuing identity documents abroad, online voter registration and the guarantee of no political persecution for those who wish to return.
