Historian Carlos Fico, 67 years old, from Rio de Janeiro, a professor at UFRJ and specialist in the study of the military regime, is beginning new research on the armed left during the Military Dictatorship in Brazil. The project is expected to take approximately four years of work.
The provisional title of the work is "Memories of the Left in Arms: Motivations and Persistence". The book will focus centrally on the motivations that led left-wing groups to adopt armed struggle as a form of resistance during the dictatorial period.
The research seeks to understand why these movements persisted in this strategy, even in the face of the risks and repression of the military regime. The study aims to analyze the reasons and circumstances that sustained this political and armed choice on the part of the Brazilian left.
