A goat grazing project was launched at the end of 2019 in the Schist Village of Cepos, located in the Açor mountain range. The initiative arose in response to the need to create defenses against the constant threat of forest fires affecting the region.
Currently, the project has 160 animals that play a fundamental role in fire prevention through their controlled grazing. The goats help clear dry vegetation and reduce the amount of fuel available for potential fires.
The animals have become the true "darlings" of the village, that is, they are greatly admired and valued by the local community. The success of the project demonstrates how natural and traditional solutions can be effective in territorial management and in protecting forests against fires.
