The Federal Police asked the attorney general of Brazil, Paulo Gonet, to step aside from an investigation in which his name appears. The request was made to the Supreme Federal Court.
Gonet had ordered an investigation into alleged external interferences in the preparation of a report that gathers messages found on the cell phone of the former owner of the defunct Banco Master. This report is known as the "core of evidence" in the case.
The case involves the collapse of Banco Master, a financial institution that was liquidated by the Central Bank in 2024. The messages on the former owner's cell phone are part of the evidence in the proceedings.
Gonet's defense stated that he never interfered in the case and always acted in accordance with the law. The Federal Public Ministry has not yet commented on the Federal Police's request.
