Botafogo fans announced that they will display the traditional idols banner in the stands of Nilton Santos Stadium next Sunday during the match against Palmeiras. The action is led by the "Ninguém Ama Como A Gente" Movement.
The banner, which previously included the image of midfielder Marlon Freitas, underwent a vote among the alvinegro fans in January. After the player's transfer to Palmeiras, the fans decided to remove Marlon's image and include in his place that of former goalkeeper Jefferson.
Marlon Freitas was captain of Botafogo during the conquests of the Libertadores and the Brasileirão in 2024. He and Luiz Henrique had been elected by the fans themselves as representatives of the winning team to be added to the club's traditional idol banner.
On social media, on the eve of the clash with Palmeiras, the fan movement highlighted goalkeeper Jefferson's career as a tribute, using the phrase "There is more than money" in reference to the player's decision to leave Botafogo to sign with the alviverde team.
