Nacional was defeated by Sporting 0-2 in a fifth-round match of the Portuguese league. The match took place at the José Alvalade Stadium, in Lisbon, and represented another defeat for the Madeiran team.

The first goal of the match was scored by Luís Suárez in the 32nd minute, through a penalty, putting Sporting in the lead. In the second half, in the 49th minute, Flavío Gonçalves scored the second and final goal for the lion team, sealing the 2-0 victory.
