Alison dos Santos, the Piu, was crowned champion of the 400m hurdles at the Diamond League final stage, held this Saturday in Brussels. The Brazilian led the race with a wide margin and crossed the finish line with a time of 46.70s, winning the competition title for the third time, having also won in 2022 and 2024.
The podium was completed by Bassit, from the United States, in second place with 48.03s, and by Brazilian Matheus Lima, in third, with 48.18s.
Piu's main rival of the season, Norwegian Karsten Warholm, was absent from the event. The previous week, in Zurich, Alison had broken Warholm's world record by posting the impressive time of 45.80s. According to the article, Warholm decided not to participate in the Diamond League finals due to a financial dispute, disagreeing with the prize money values.
Only two Brazilian athletes have the coveted Diamond Trophy: in addition to Alison dos Santos, jumper Fabiana Murer is the other Brazilian to achieve this feat.
