Serbia: war criminal Mladić commemorated in Belgrade without state honors

Mladić was a Bosnian-Serb military commander considered a war criminal, having been convicted by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia for genocide and crimes against humanity.

Thousands of people are expected at Mladić's funeral, which will take place on Monday in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia.

The funeral will take place without state honors, meaning without the presence of officials in office, without artillery salutes and without ceremonial military presence.

Brussels has already warned that any attempt to glorify Mladić will be considered incompatible with the values that underpin Serbia's accession process to the European Union.
