Fernando Alonso experienced a frustrating qualifying session at the Italian Grand Prix at Monza. The Spanish driver got out of his car before the end of the session, visibly irritated and even kicking inside the car. Alonso knew he was coming to Monza to face difficulties, considering that the circuit, known as the Temple of Speed, does not favor the performance of his car.
The Aston Martin driver explained that something went wrong with the battery or another component of the car, which prevented the correct functioning of the vehicle and resulted in the loss of potential during qualifying. This technical problem completely conditioned his performance in the session.
Despite the difficulties, Alonso believes there was much more pace available. The team used only one set of tires throughout the entire qualifying session, and the time achieved was set on used tires that were too cold due to the long wait in the pit lane. The driver believes he had the ability for a significantly better result on his final attempt.
As a result of all these factors, Alonso finished qualifying in the second-to-last position, confirming one of the most complicated sessions of his season and highlighting the limitations of the Aston Martin car on a circuit that requires maximum straight-line speed.
