Davey Johnstone, Elton John's 75-year-old guitarist, visited Lapa, in the Central Region of Rio de Janeiro, this weekend before performing with the star on Monday (7) at Rock in Rio. The Scottish musician shared images of the visit on his social media.
Johnstone photographed the tiles of the Selarón Steps, one of the most iconic tourist spots in the city. Among the shared images are tiles inspired by works of international repercussion, such as "Girl with a Pearl Earring" by Johannes Vermeer, from 1665, and the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci.
One of the photos also shows Princess Diana featured on tiles. The image was published a few days after the 29th anniversary of Diana's death, which occurred on August 31, 1997.
The musician also captured images of Christ the Redeemer, one of the new seven wonders of the world. In the caption of the photo of the monument, Johnstone wrote "Peace and love, from Rio", demonstrating his admiration for the city.
