Standing still for ten years, Alemão Cable Car to start having cables replaced next week

Standing still for ten years, the Alemão Cable Car, in the north zone of Rio de Janeiro, will start having the support cables of the gondolas replaced next week. The system was deactivated in October 2016 due to lack of maintenance amid the state's financial crisis, and since then several promises of resumption have been made without success.

The new forecast for the completion of the recovery works is February, followed by tests with load and without load until the service is delivered to the State Transportation Secretariat in June of next year. There is still no forecast for when residents will be able to use the transportation again.

Inaugurated in July 2011 as a major work for the city, the cable car operated for only five years and three months. This means that, even after the completion of the recovery work, the gondolas will have been stopped longer than in operation.
