Alison dos Santos Arrives as Favorite for the Diamond League Title in Brussels Final

oglobo5 September 2026 at 11:41

After shattering the world record in the 400m hurdles, Brazilian Alison dos Santos, known as Piu, is the big star of the Diamond League finals in Brussels. His event will be the last on the schedule, in prime time in Belgium, at 4:52 PM (Brasília time), and will be broadcast live on SporTV2.

Piu's main rival this season, Norway's Karsten Warholm, will be absent from the competition. Last week in Zurich, Alison dos Santos broke Warholm's world record by posting the impressive time of 45.80 seconds. The Norwegian decided not to participate in the Diamond League finals due to a financial dispute, disagreeing with the prize money amounts.

The finals of the traditional competition on the athletics calendar take place at the Allianz Memorial Van Damme. A total of 32 champions will be awarded the iconic Diamond Trophy, one of the few major titles before the World Athletics Championships in Budapest in September.

Only two Brazilian athletes have the coveted Diamond Trophy, highlighting the importance of Alison dos Santos's potential victory at the competition.
