The University of Porto won two medals at the 2026 European University Rowing Championship, held from August 25 to 30 in Zagreb, Croatia. The mixed quad scull team, composed of José Canha, André Dias, Rita Faria, and Maria Rita Rodrigues, achieved the gold medal, becoming European university champions. This result represents the second consecutive year the team has reached the podium, after winning the bronze in 2025. Duarte Castro also contributed to the delegation's success by winning the bronze medal in the men's lightweight single sculls category.
In addition to the medalists, Maria Rita Rodrigues finished in fourth place in the women's lightweight single sculls, nearly reaching the podium, while André Dias and José Canha secured fifth place in the men's double sculls. The delegation was composed of five student-athletes and coached by Ricardo Cardoso, totaling two bronzes and one gold for the U.Porto contingent.
With these results, the University of Porto has accumulated a total of five international medals in the 2025/2026 season, including three bronzes won by the Table Tennis team at the European University Games held in Salerno, strengthening its position in European university competitions.
The European university season is approaching its end, with the final competitions scheduled for Tirana, Albania, between September 8 and 16. In this concluding phase, U.Porto will be represented by 16 student-athletes and three coaches, competing in Karate, Taekwondo, and Kickboxing.
