The Sanctuary of Fatima announced that it will oppose the implementation of a tourist tax in the town. The measure was announced by the municipality of Ourém, the municipality where the town of Fatima is located.

The tourist tax approved by the municipal council will come into force at the beginning of next year. The value set for this tax will be two euros.

The Sanctuary of Fatima, as one of the main institutions in the region and a destination for millions of pilgrims and tourists annually, expressed its intention to oppose this measure, signaling a potential conflict between the religious institution and the municipal executive.
