The Lisbon Criminal Instruction Court rejected a ruling by the former national director of the Judicial Police, Luís Neves, who claimed for the PJ's operational use dozens of assets seized in a mega-case against drug trafficking. The judge considered the ruling null, covering objects such as sofas, gym equipment and televisions.
Luís Neves, known as Xuxas, signed the ruling claiming these assets for the PJ, but the defendants' defense questioned the legality of this decision. The Judicial Police confirmed it continues to use the assets in question, despite the court decision that annulled the ruling.
The defense of the defendants in the drug trafficking case announced it will ask the court to conduct an audit of the situation, in order to clarify the legality of the PJ's use of these assets and the circumstances that led to the annulment of the ruling.
The mega-case involves serious drug trafficking charges, and the question of seized assets has become a new point of contention between the parties, with the court now ruling against the transfer of assets for police operational use.
