Russia installs 'cages' of protection: 'Launched drones [...] have capacity to penetrate defenses'

Now4 September 2026 at 21:39

Russia is installing protection structures around and over its refinery fuel tanks. These structures consist of scaffolding tubes and multiple protective meshes, functioning as "cages" designed to detonate projectiles at a safe distance.

The drones launched against these installations have the capacity to penetrate traditional defenses, which led Russia to adopt these additional physical protection measures at its oil infrastructure.

The measure comes as a response to drone attacks that have targeted Russian refineries, representing an attempt to minimize the damage caused by these projectiles on Russia's strategic energy facilities.
