The Environment Minister, Maria da Graça Carvalho, announced that the restructuring of the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) and the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests (ICNF) is practically concluded. The reorganization process of these two government entities is thus in an advanced phase of development.
According to the minister, this restructuring should be shortly submitted to the Council of Ministers for approval. The announcement was made by Maria da Graça Carvalho in the exercise of her duties as holder of the Environment portfolio.
APA and ICNF are fundamental organisms in Portuguese environmental governance, being responsible for areas such as nature conservation, forest management and environmental protection. The restructuring aims presumably to improve efficiency and coordination between these entities.
The timing of this announcement comes in the context of the current government composition, with the final decision on the approval of the new organizational model for these two agencies now falling to the Council of Ministers.
