The Minister of Environment, Maria da Graça Carvalho, rejected the construction of new landfills in Portugal. Her statements came after the approval, this Friday, by the Council of Ministers, of the strategy called "Terra +".
This strategy's main objective is to create solutions to reduce the amount of waste that is deposited in landfills. The Government thus approved a plan aimed at reducing dependence on these waste disposal sites.
Maria da Graça Carvalho expressed herself against the construction of new landfills, aligning herself with the philosophy underlying the new strategy approved by the executive. This position reflects the Government's intention to bet on alternatives to landfill disposal.
