Paulo Gonet, reappointed as Attorney General of Brazil by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva last year, keeps his meeting schedule with the head of the Executive branch under secrecy. A request made by the newspaper GLOBO based on the Access to Information Law requested information about how many times Gonet visited the president at the Palace of Alvorada and Granja do Torto, official residences of the Presidency.
The request was denied by the PGR. Gonet's office justified that the agency does not have "structured data" that allows extracting this information in an automated manner. The PGR also stated that meeting the request would require "additional work of analysis, interpretation or data consolidation."
The GLOBO's request covered visits, agendas, and commitments recorded at Alvorada and Granja do Torto. The PGR invoked a provision of the decree that regulates the LAI to justify the denial, which allows the non-disclosure of information when the request would require additional research or data interpretation work.
