The Court of Justice of Pernambuco determined, on Thursday, a ten-day deadline for Mayor João Campos of Recife to provide clarification about a controversial statement. In a video, Campos stated that "whoever sits in the chair to govern" the state "cannot be coordinating a digital militia", in reference to Governor Raquel Lyra (PSD).
The decision came in response to a request from Raquel Lyra's legal team. The case occurs amid an exchange of accusations between the rival campaigns about the existence of alleged "hate cabinets" used to attack political adversaries.
João Campos' post was made after a Record TV report, published ten days earlier, which revealed that the Federal Police is investigating the activity of an alleged network of accounts that would receive public money to attack political adversaries.
According to the investigation, Amisadai Andrade da Silva, who worked at the Tourism and Leisure Secretariat of the Lyra government, would be at the forefront of this alleged scheme of accounts attacking adversaries.
