Botafogo announced on Friday afternoon the signing of defender Arthur Chaves as a new addition to the team. At 25 years old, the defender arrives at the black-and-white club on loan until the end of 2027. The club will pay one million euros, approximately R$ 6 million, for the deal, with an obligation to buy based on contractual milestones that would raise the total value to 6 million euros, about R$ 35.8 million.
Unearthed by Avaí, Arthur Chaves was sold at a young age, at 21, to Académico, of Portugal. Later, he was transferred to Hoffenheim, a German team.
The player was mapped by Botafogo's scouting department, which had already attempted to sign him on previous occasions. Besides Botafogo, Vasco, São Paulo, and other German teams showed interest during the transfer window.
Internally, the club sees Chaves as a high-potential athlete who was not having a great spell in Europe. Although right-footed, the defender has the ability to play on both sides of the defense and is considered a fast center-back, with good tactical awareness.
