During the event, Sánchez stated that he doesn't need to know what "farming aura" is -- a reference to slang used in online games -- to recognize that renting is a problem for young people. With this statement, the president wanted to demonstrate that he understands the difficulties faced by youth, even without mastering their language or culture.
The assembly, which is taking place this weekend, will also serve to elect the new permanent commission of the Youth Council of Spain. This body represents the interests of young Spaniards and functions as a space for dialogue between youth and political power.
The moment of Sánchez's speech coincides with a context in which access to housing remains one of the main concerns of young Spaniards, with growing difficulties to rent or buy their own home.
