The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky promised this Friday a firm response to the shootout that involved elements of the country's intelligence services. The incident represents an unprecedented escalation in internal tensions between Ukrainian security agencies.
Zelensky also announced the dismissal of several deputy heads of the security agencies involved in the shootout, in an attempt to control the situation and demonstrate firmness in the face of what he classified as a serious violation of state security protocols.
The shootout between intelligence service elements raises serious questions about coordination between Ukraine's different intelligence agencies, at a time when the country is facing a war with Russia and needs total cohesion among its security forces.
