The Portuguese Navy received Government authorization to invest up to 6.29 million euros in the modernization of the Marine Corps Base and School. The investment aims to raise security standards and mobility effectiveness, enabling improved security, better movement of people, and the creation of adequate conditions for training and mission fulfillment.
The intervention comes in a broader context of increased Portuguese investment in defense capabilities for the Navy. In August, the Armada had already obtained the green light to invest up to 21 million euros in the modernization of the maritime-port support infrastructure at the Lisbon Naval Base, in Alfeite.
During the same period, the Ministry of Defense announced the acquisition of 75 tactical vehicles for the marines in an investment of 133 million euros, funded by the European SAFE instrument. This acquisition is part of a broader set of planned military acquisitions.
Among the naval assets expected to reinforce the Armada's fleet are drone carriers, new supply ships, and three new frigates, the latter acquired through the SAFE loan program. The modernization of military infrastructure thus accompanies the acquisition of new equipment and assets by the Navy.
