The city of Itajaí, in Santa Catarina, will host The Ocean Race 2027 between March 31 and April 18, marking the fifth consecutive stop of the world's greatest around-the-world regatta in the region. The first sailboats are expected starting March 31, after completing the crossing between Auckland, New Zealand, and the Brazilian coast, including the passage through the challenging Cape Horn.
The competition is expected to attract up to 500,000 visitors in just 19 days, representing a 31% increase compared to the 381,000 people recorded in the 2023 edition. The baseline scenario forecasts 420,000 visitors, with the possibility of reaching half a million during the Race Village operation.
The estimated economic impact is R$ 271 million, a significant advance compared to the numbers from three years ago. The regulations initially opened ten spots for the IMOCA 60 configuration, which would represent 40 athletes, four per boat, plus one embedded reporter on each team. The final list of entrants has not yet been announced.
