Belgian Wout van Aert, rider of the Visma team, won the 13th stage of the Vuelta by making an attack three kilometres from the finish, dropping the remaining breakaway companions and beating Frenchman Paret-Peintre in a sprint.
The stage was decided by van Aert's solo attack, as he managed to break away from the escape group in the final kilometres and arrive at the finish with enough advantage to secure victory.
Frenchman Aaron Paret-Peintre finished in second place, unable to match the Belgian's pace in the decisive phase of the stage.
Enric Mas maintains the lead of the Vuelta's overall classification, continuing as the race's yellow jersey after this stage.
