The Sanctuary of Fatima will present on September 12 the book "Fatima written with light", a work by photographer Luís Pavão dedicated to the visual memory of the Marian institution. The publication proposes a view of the Fatima phenomenon through photographs taken by different professionals over more than a century, bringing together 408 historical images.

The work, part of the Art and Heritage collection, documents pilgrims, crowds, moments of devotion, transformations of the Sanctuary and different social and human dimensions of Cova da Iria. The volume is structured in five chronological chapters, covering the period from 1917 to 2021, and includes a thematic segment dedicated to the travels of the Pilgrim Image of Our Lady of Fatima, which began in 1947.

The curatorial selection results from the in-depth knowledge that Luís Pavão acquired of the photographic collection, when he advised the Audiovisual Nucleus on preservation, organization, description and digitization work of the collections between 1999 and 2005. The photographer will be present at the book launch, which takes place at 5:00 PM at the Pastoral Center of Paulo VI.

The public presentation will be conducted by Marco Daniel Duarte, author of the preface and director of the Academy of Studies of the Sanctuary of Fatima. The event will also constitute a moment of debate on the role of photography in documenting and spreading the Fatima phenomenon globally.
