Flamengo will face Independiente del Valle in the first leg of the Libertadores quarterfinals. For this match, the club drew up a special travel plan, making a combined stop departing from Belém, in Pará, where they face Remo in the Brasileirão on Sunday at 4 PM, directly to Quito, the Ecuadorian capital.
The red-and-black team departs for Belém on Saturday afternoon and, after the match, will not return to Rio de Janeiro. The delegation will train on Monday still in Pará and will then travel to Ecuador. The club's football department made this decision as a strategy to reduce the fatigue caused by travel and extend the preparation period at altitude.
Quito is located about 2,850 meters above sea level, a condition that requires specific adaptation from the players. Flamengo understands that remaining in Ecuador longer will allow the athletes to better acclimate to the altitude before Thursday's match, totaling two days of training at the location.
