IL says potential classification of Lourdes Castro's house must have a concrete strategy

Funchal Notícias4 September 2026 at 16:13

The Liberal Initiative has expressed its position on the potential classification of the Casa de Lourdes Castro, arguing that any decision in this regard must be accompanied by a concrete strategy for the property. The party considers that it is not enough to proceed with classification without a defined intervention plan.

According to IL's position, this concrete strategy should notably include a serious proposal to acquire the property from the current owner. The party believes it is necessary to resolve the ownership issue before moving forward with any classification.

Additionally, the Liberal Initiative argues that a credible project must be presented for the installation of a cultural facility dedicated to the legacy of the Madeiran artist Lourdes Castro. This would be the way to ensure that the classified property would effectively have relevant cultural use.

The party's position arises in the context of a broader debate about the future of the Casa de Lourdes Castro, with IL emphasizing that classification alone does not resolve the problems associated with the preservation and revitalization of this space.

The success of the far-right leader shakes Australia

Pauline Hanson, leader of the Australian far right and founder of the One Nation party, threatens to break the bipartisanship that has prevailed in Australian democracy. At 73 years old and an admirer of Donald Trump, Hanson is preparing for a major electoral leap in the federal elections scheduled for 2028, with polls giving her 30% voting intention, above the Labor Party (in government) and the Coalition (liberals and conservatives), the main traditional forces. It is the first time that a third party surpasses traditional Australian parties in opinion polls.
