The Minister of the Presidency, António Leitão Amaro, classified this Friday the motion of censure presented by Chega against the Government as "a choreography without consequences", at a press conference after the weekly Council of Ministers meeting. The official stated that the motion "is not intended to obtain clarifications" and that, given the foreseeable outcome, it will have no consequences.
The motion of censure by Chega is based on the maintenance of the Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves, in the Executive, who is at the center of successive news stories that have involved the official. When questioned about the Government's comfort regarding this situation, Leitão Amaro responded that the theme "was not discussed in the Council of Ministers" and that the prime minister has already recently spoken on the matter.
The minister assured that the PSD/CDS-PP Executive will not be distracted by this motion and will maintain focus "on solutions to Portuguese people's problems". "Political choreography that is only that remains with those who propose it. We are not distracted, we are focused on our objective", he stated.
When questioned about the eventual impact on the negotiation of legislation, such as the State Budget, Leitão Amaro reiterated that the Executive "has no preferred partners" in the negotiations. The motion of censure will be discussed and voted in Parliament on September 8th.
