Amid an unprecedented crisis at the Supreme Federal Court (STF), Justice Edson Fachin defended this Friday dialogue between institutions during an event at the Presidential Palace. Alongside President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Fachin stated that strengthening Justice means strengthening Brazilian democracy. The event takes place at a moment of intense tension at the country's highest court.
The crisis took on new dimensions the day before, when Lula demanded "integrity of investigations" in the Master case and Justice Alexandre de Moraes presented a request to investigate André Mendonça, his fellow court member, for "evidence of crimes" committed in conducting inquiries under his rapporteurship.
Before the event at the Presidential Palace, the president of the STF removed the investigation request from the fake news inquiry, which was being reported by Moraes, and requested that the Attorney General of Brazil, Paulo Gonet, and Mendonça comment on the Federal Police reports made public by Moraes.
In his speech at the Palace, Fachin did not directly mention the unprecedented conflict at the Supreme Court or the demands made by Lula, avoiding publicly addressing the crisis that directly involves the court.
