Maggie Gyllenhaal, actress and director, gave up on using generative artificial intelligence in video during the production of "Flesh Impact," a 17-minute short about Marilyn Monroe. According to her, the technology was tested to recreate the actress, but the result fell short of what was achieved with Dakota Johnson, who ended up portraying Monroe in the film.
Gyllenhaal stated this Friday during a conversation about artificial intelligence at the Venice Film Festival, that AI "basically didn't work" to recreate Marilyn Monroe. She chairs the jury of this year's edition of the festival and also presents the short film.
In the film, Dakota Johnson portrays Marilyn Monroe at the height of her career, while Ellen Burstyn plays the actress in an imagined version of what she could have been like had she not died.
