The FIA takes Monaco podium from Gasly three months later

El Periódico Mediterráneo - General4 September 2026 at 12:25

Three months after the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix was held, the FIA issued a statement on Friday announcing that the third position on the podium will finally be awarded to Isack Hadjar. With this, the initial sanction applied to Pierre Gasly was confirmed, leaving the French driver off the podium.

Pierre Gasly, who had celebrated the third place in Monaco, now officially loses his podium position. The FIA's decision represents the final application of the penalty that had been contested over the past few months.

Isack Hadjar, the driver who will now be recognized as the third-place finisher, will not be present this weekend at the Italian Grand Prix due to an injury. The driver will be unable to personally celebrate the achievement that arrives three months late.

The case represents another chapter in what has been described as a sanction "culebrón", referring to the prolonged controversy involving the penalties and appeals related to the Monaco race results.
