White House Envoys Traveling to Moscow and Kyiv This Weekend for Ukraine War

SAPO Notícias4 September 2026 at 11:38

White House envoys are traveling to Moscow and Kyiv this weekend on a diplomatic mission related to the war in Ukraine. Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will make their first visit to the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, after having already made several trips to Russia.

The trip represents an effort by the American administration to establish dialogue with both parties to the conflict. So far, contacts with the Russian side have been more frequent, raising questions about the balance of the proposed mediation.

The trip to Kyiv marks a shift in the diplomatic approach, allowing the envoys to directly learn the position of the Ukrainian government. This visit occurs at a critical moment in the conflict, when possible terms for a peace agreement are being discussed.

The mission follows multiple previous visits to Russia, where Witkoff and Kushner are believed to have established contacts with Russian officials. The sequence of the trips reflects the complexity of trying to mediate an agreement between the two warring parties.

Puigdem's last public appearance was in January in Perpinyà, and since then he has only spoken through social media, not always on strictly political current affairs.
