Defender Alexsandro breaks down in tears after Lille's victory and recalls injury that kept him from World Cup: 'It was difficult'

The 27-year-old Brazilian defender Alexsandro broke down in tears on the field after Lille's 1-0 victory over Toulouse on Thursday, a match valid for the French League. The player was a starter in the game that took his team temporarily to the top of the competition.

The reason for his emotion was related to a traumatic reunion. It was precisely against Toulouse, almost a year ago, that Alexsandro suffered a serious injury that kept him off the pitch for months and compromised his chances of playing in the 2026 World Cup.

In the mixed zone after the match, the Brazilian explained that the game had a special meaning because it happened in the same month he got injured against the same opponent the previous year. He stated that remembering that difficult time was very hard for him.

The broadcast images showed Alexsandro with his hands resting on his knees, crying after the final whistle, in a moment of emotional release after the reunion with the opponent who negatively marked his career.
