In 2025, one in six adults in the European Union was obese, revealing a significant public health problem across Europe. The data shows considerable variations between Member States.
Malta, Latvia and Finland stood out as the countries with the highest obesity rates. In contrast, Italy, Greece and Romania had the lowest obesity rates in the EU.
Portugal was above the European Union average, with 17% of the adult population obese. This figure places the country in an unfavourable position relative to the overall European landscape.
