The Nursing Union, SATSE, criticized the proposal by the Valencian Health Department to create 9 specialist mental health nurse positions in the Valencian Community. Of these positions, 3 would be destined for Alicante, 2 for Castellón and 4 for Valencia. This measure is linked to the Valencian Mental Health and Additions Plan 2024-2027.
SATSE considered this proposal totally insufficient to address the high incidence of mental health problems in the population of the Valencian Community. The union understands that the number of new positions created does not respond to the real needs of the population.
The initiative is part of a multi-year plan covering the period between 2024 and 2027, but according to SATSE, the provision of specialist mental health nursing staff falls far short of what would be necessary to meet the growing demand for mental health care in the region.
