The Government changed the rules applicable to recreational fishing from vessels on the Tagus River, eliminating the mandatory anchoring and allowing the activity to be practiced with the vessel drifting. The change is contained in Order No. 404/2026/1, published on Wednesday, September 2, in the Official Gazette, and came into force the following day.
The diploma amends Order No. 330/2026/1, of August 6, which approved the new regulatory norms for commercial and recreational fishing in non-maritime inland waters of the Tagus River. The regulation published in August determined that vessels used in recreational fishing remained anchored during the exercise of the activity.
After the complaints presented by recreational fishermen and the assessment of the specific conditions in which fishing is practiced on the Tagus, the Government decided to relax this obligation. The Secretary of State for Fisheries and the Sea, Salvador Malheiro, explains that the changes initially introduced sought to combat certain problems identified in the fishing activity.
