A 35-year-old woman named Sophie Goodyer-Bird died of heatstroke during the descent of Mount Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales. The case was revealed during an inquest held in Caernarfon about her death, which occurred on July 10. Sophie had traveled from Birmingham with a friend to climb the mountain, which is also known by its Welsh name Yr Wyddfa.
The United Kingdom was experiencing temperatures above 30°C at the time of the incident. Sophie managed to reach the summit of the mountain, located at 1,085 meters altitude, but became increasingly tired during the return journey.
Shortly before completing the descent, Sophie fainted and became unconscious. Other hikers present tried to revive her with CPR until paramedics arrived. She was declared dead at 2:18 PM.
According to the pathologist who performed the autopsy, Sophie suffered from heatstroke. The inquest into the full circumstances of her death is still ongoing.
