The chapel located on Rua Cosme Velho, 218, in Rio de Janeiro, where writer Machado de Assis married the Portuguese Carolina Augusta Xavier de Novais in 1869, may be expropriated to become a cultural center. The bill requesting the expropriation of the former Casablanca Studios land arrived at the Alerj, the Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro. The intention is to give the site a new historical lease on life, which currently belongs to the Casablanca Studios land. The project aims to transform the space into a cultural facility, preserving the memory of the Brazilian writer.
