ADN Madeira defends that suicide prevention in the Autonomous Region must include a specific strategy for mental health at work. The party proposes the implementation of psychosocial risk assessment, the creation of confidential support mechanisms and reinforced attention to professions subject to high pressure, trauma, isolation, prolonged hours and staff shortages.
As an example of the most vulnerable professions, the party highlights veterinary medicine, citing a Portuguese study conducted with 833 professionals in the field. This study revealed that 3.5% of participants reported having had a suicide attempt during their lifetime, while 27.4% had burnout.
The position of ADN Madeira arises in the context of a broader debate on the need for public policies that address mental health in the workplace, considering that certain professions present specific risk factors that require differentiated attention.
