FIFA accuses UEFA of promoting 'defamation campaign' against Gianni Infantino

oglobo4 September 2026 at 09:54

The crisis between FIFA and UEFA has reached the courts. The entity that runs world football formally accused the European confederation of promoting a "defamation campaign" against the institution and its president, Gianni Infantino.

FIFA's reaction comes after UEFA turned to US courts seeking documents it intends to use in a potential criminal action in Switzerland against the executive.

At the center of the dispute is the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) project, designed by Infantino's management to create a new commercial structure and open part of FIFA's business to private investors.

The plan called for the sale of a 20% stake for US$ 4.2 billion, about R$ 22.8 billion, and was ultimately abandoned in July in face of strong resistance within football. UEFA mainly questions the valuation attributed to the deal.
