The Spanish Government has prepared a proposal for the European Union aimed at strengthening the European response to climate risks. The initiative, designated as a "mega-plan," was sent by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for the Ecological Transition, Sara Aagesen, to the European Commission.
The proposal includes the creation of a specific tax on the profits of oil companies and gas companies. This tax would aim to finance the necessary policies to combat climate change in Europe.
The underlying idea is that fossil fuel companies, which have obtained significant profits, should financially contribute to the efforts of adaptation and mitigation of the effects of climate change. The plan is part of a broader strategy to provide the EU with more tools in the fight against this environmental threat.
