The University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) has once again affirmed its role in promoting sport by integrating the route of the International Douro Grand Prix. This collaboration demonstrates the institution's commitment to enhancing the Douro territory and promoting events that bring the academic community closer to the local population.
The 2026 edition of the competition kicked off on August 28 with a nighttime prologue in Vila Real. The following day, the first stage had its symbolic departure from the UTAD campus, at a ceremony that counted with the presence of local authorities and marked the start of a route that crosses the iconic landscapes of the Douro region to Lamego.
UTAD has been actively involved in organizing the event, consolidating its visibility at key moments of the competition. This participation has contributed to projecting the university in national and international forums, strengthening ties with athletes, teams and cycling fans.
The race ended in Porto on August 30, having been a success by uniting sport, cultural heritage and the promotion of local potential. This type of event not only boosts sport, but also enhances regional identity, attracts tourists and highlights the beauty of northern Portugal.
