The president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP), announced on Thursday (the 3rd) that the proposed constitutional amendment (PEC) that ends the 6x1 work schedule should be voted on in the plenary of the House only after the elections. The statement was made during a Senate session, when addressing Senator Paulo Paim (PT-RS), one of the main defenders of the change in the working hours.
Alcolumbre stated that the vote will take place "after the elections," signaling that the PEC will not be analyzed by the plenary before the first round of elections, scheduled for October 4. The president of the Senate did not clarify, however, whether the vote could take place in the interval between the two rounds of the election.
Paulo Paim is not a candidate for re-election this year, which means he will certainly not continue serving as a senator. Alcolumbre's speech indicates that, even if the proposal is approved, Paim will not be in the House to participate in the vote in the next legislative session.
Government leaders had been negotiating the agenda, but the decision to postpone the vote to the post-election period represents a significant change in the schedule for considering the proposal.
