President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) called Senate President Davi Alcolumbre (União Brasil-AP) on Wednesday to try to unblock voting on the Constitutional Amendment Proposal (PEC) that proposes ending the 6x1 work schedule. According to reports from three people familiar with the conversations, the leftist approached Alcolumbre after the PEC was approved in the Constitution and Justice Committee (CCJ) and asked for the proposal to be taken to the floor — which did not happen.
The president thanked Alcolumbre for the approval in the CCJ of the PEC and other matters that advanced in the Senate this week, considered priorities for the Palace of Planning, such as the Public Security PEC, the rare earths projects and the one that creates incentives for datacenters.
It is the Senate president's prerogative to schedule the topics that will be analyzed on the floor. Alcolumbre's decision not to conclude the voting on the topic frustrated the expectations of Lula's allies, who were working for the proposal's approval still in this legislative period.
