Messages included by the Federal Police in the report that resulted in the latest of three recent operations against former governor Cláudio Castro (PL), last month, reveal that he considered businessman Ricardo Magro, owner of Refit, a "friend." The PF states that the relationship between the then head of Guanabara Palace and the man known as the country's largest tax debtor was not limited to the professional realm and resulted in benefits to the refinery.
Castro and Magro were targets of a first operation on the case in May. The former governor underwent searches and seizures, while the businessman had an arrest warrant determined by the Supreme Federal Court (STF) and was not located, being considered a fugitive.
After an event in New York that both attended last year, Magro wrote to Castro to thank him for his presence, highlighting the strain involved in the participation. The messages are part of the evidence collected by the investigation into the alleged corruption scheme involving the refinery.
