The United States imposed new economic sanctions against Cuba, in a measure that represents a return to the policy of economic pressure on the island. The US State Department announced these sanctions which aim to expand the existing restrictions on the country.
Among the individuals sanctioned is Fidel Ernesto Castro Calis, grandson of former Cuban leader Raúl Castro. Additionally, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, his wife Lis Cuesta Peraza and her stepson Manuel Anido Cuesta were also designated.
Regarding business entities, the sanctions cover the Banco Exterior de Cuba, as well as four companies linked to the country's energy and natural resources sectors.
These measures represent a continuation of the United States' economic sanctions policy against Cuba, which has been applied intermittently over the past few decades.
