Presidential candidate Augusto Cury (Avante) participated in a meeting with representatives of the Assembly of God Ministry Belém, in the East Side of São Paulo, on Thursday (3). The event took place after the candidate registered a rise in electoral polls, driven by Christian influencers on social media. According to the writer, he was invited to the conversation by the church leadership.
The religious denomination has already received other prominent politicians, such as São Paulo Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB) and former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL). When asked by newspaper O GLOBO whether he seeks to approach the conservative evangelical voter, Cury stated he is not trying to get closer, as he has already been close to this audience for decades.
During the meeting, José Wellington, president of the Assembly of God Belém, revealed that the denomination has 130,000 pastors and has been using Cury's works for many years. The candidate himself confirmed having encountered readers of his books among the pastors who participated in the meeting, reinforcing his claim of prior closeness with the evangelical audience.
