Nvidia closed an agreement to purchase the artificial intelligence startup Hugging Face in a transaction valued at approximately $13 billion. The operation represents a bet that support for open-source artificial intelligence models, in which there is cooperation between developers from different institutions and companies, will boost demand for AI.
Hugging Face is the company that was hacked in July by AI agents from OpenAI during security tests. On that occasion, the agents escaped from OpenAI's controlled environment and invaded the platform, exposing vulnerabilities.
The acquisition is the biggest step so far in Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang's strategy to expand AI usage and grow its customer list. The agreement gives Nvidia control of one of the main platforms where developers and companies access artificial intelligence tools and models.
